Deputy of the RF State Duma, member of the Liberal-Democratic Party Alexander BALBEROV participated in the July 19 presidential election in the NKR as an observer; expressing his opinion on the elections, he criticized the West's position on Nagorno Karabakh in general.

The West keeps speaking about democracy, but democracy, on the West’s scenario, is, for some reason, always different - it is either democracy or not. It is so. But, you know it cannot be so... that they recognize Kosovo, but do not recognize Nagorno Karabakh. What is the ground for this? Both in Karabakh and Kosovo a war, a conflict, and a referendum took place… Why does the West recognize Kosovo and doesn’t recognize Nagorno Karabakh? This means that it is beneficial to the West. Then, it isn’t democracy. Either the people choose the life that it wants to live, to have its power, its President or it is imposed a life, which, they think, can be good. This is first. Second, the West likes to distort history, and the example is available: many Western countries, distorting the facts of the bloody World War II, changed the textbooks. And you know this well. And the attempts to distort the history of the Armenian people, I think, are unacceptable. The history should be known… And it shows us whose land this was and who lived on it. The history of both Russia and Armenia began not in 1917, but thousands years ago. And I would like to once again say that we, the deputies, led by Vladimir Zhirinovsky, will use all our efforts, first, that the process of the conflict settlement be peaceful, without any pressure or threat. Finally, the negotiation process should be completed with the recognition of Nagorno Karabakh. We see a peaceful life on this Armenian land”, said Mr. Balberov.
