THE PEOPLE OF ARTSAKH IN GREAT PATRIOTIC

 

The people of Artsakh also had a huge contribution to building a victory over Nazi Germany. 45,000 Armenians from Karabakh participated in the Great Patriotic War, including 2,000 women. More than 20,000 people were killed on the battlefield, every 7th inhabitant, which is much higher than the average level of losses of the Soviet Union.

29 heroes of the Soviet Union were crowned with courage and bravery in the battles against the Nazi invaders, including double heroes: Marshal HovhannesBaghramyan and Lieutenant Colonel Nelson Stepanyan, Commander of the 47th Red Flag Attack Air Regiment. 7 people from Artsakh became full knights of the Order of Glory. 3 marshals, 24 generals, 3 admirals of the USSR born in Artsakhshone with their military talent in different parts of the front. During the Great Patriotic War, Admiral HovhannesTer-Isahakyan (I.S.Isakov) was the First Deputy People's Committee of the Navy, Chief of the General Staff of the Navy. USSR Marshal HovhannesBaghramyan, first Commander of the Army, then Frontier, Aviation Marshal ArmenakKhanperiants (S.A.Khudyakov) was the Chief of Staff of the Red Army Military Aviation, Commander of the Air Army. Colonel-General Mikael Parseghov was Commander of the Army, then Chief of Artillery of the Front. Chief Marshal of the USSR Armored Forces HamazaspBabajanyan - Commander of the Motorized Brigade, then Commander of the Corps.

The full weight of the war was borne with honor not only by those who fought on the front, but also by those in the rear.

From the beginning of the Great Patriotic War, the people of Artsakh actively participated in the movement in the country to create a defense fund. "Soviet Karabakh" newspaper in its May 15 issue, 1945 published a telegram from I. Stalin thanking Hayrapetyan, chairman of the Khachmach village collective farm, and Petrosyan, secretary of the initial party organization, for transferring 50,000 rubles and 54,000 rubles worth of state-owned shares to the Nelson Stepanyan Air Squadron. There were many such examples. In total, 42,000,000 rubles, 6 kg of gold, 600 kg of silver, 473,124 kg and 24,000 kg of non-ferrous metals, etc. were transferred to the Defense Fund from NagornoKarabakh.

During the first period of the war, the houses of culture in Stepanakert and Shushi were turned into military hospitals (three in number), where 73% of the wounded were treated and returned to the front. The leadership of the region's schoolchildren in the hospitals washeartwarming. In a short time, they sent 40,000 rubles in cash, 45 tons of herbs, etc. to the wounded soldiers.

The victory was achieved due to the heroic deeds of the brave people of Artsakh and the selfless work of the supporters.
